Mock STARR for 3rd grader

My son is in 3rd grade at ILTEXAS. I have opted him out of taking the STAAR. They have not offered him any alternative. He is in speech and can barely read on a kindergarten level. I am in process of getting him tested for any other issues but was put on hold since he failed his hearing. So as I wait to hear from a specialist the school sent out a letter about mock testing next week. His will be 2 days and a 3rd for makeup. I am keeping him home on the actual test days. But really can't next week since he just got back to school after having the flu and strep. Can I tell my son to just not take it, to tell them he refuses? I am needing advice. I know he is gonna freak out giving a test for that long...

Is this a charter school? Online or in person?
Does he have a 504 plan or IEP?

You can tell him to refuse. You can ask them to help, but it is tough at that age if you can’t keep them home. Does his IEP address written versus online administration of STAAR? What accommodations does he get.

I think if you can keep him home for Mock STAAR that will be the best way to do it. For the actual STAAR, I would suggest calling an ARD meeting to specify "No Online Administration" as one of the requirements for him taking STAAR. This will let you return him to school after the week of assessment and not have to worry about make ups.
